Art in the Dark

Starting January 2, 2024, an experiment took place at the Kunstraum LABOR WESTEND in Wiesbaden. In a completely darkened room, artworks were exhibited—works that had themselves been created in darkness in May 2023. The sculptures and drawings were designed to be explored by touch. Blind individuals, people with visual impairments, and sighted visitors shared the same perceptual environment. The exhibition was curated by two blind individuals. A workshop for the blind demonstrated the creative possibilities available for artistic practice, while music concerts and readings held in total darkness rounded out the program.
